This Thread is Dedicated to the Very honourable Actors and the Actresses of the Past Times. Here i will give you what they achieved in their life time. They helped the Film Industry when it was a little baby and help it to make it this big. They played their part with the true heart. They dedicated their life to this industry.Lets salute this stars...

Tell me how do you like this Topic...

First to go is

Shammi Kapoor’s real name is Shamsher Raj Kapoor. The actor made his acting debut with the film Jeevan Jyoti opposite Chand Usmani. Shammi Kapoor sported long hair and a pencil moustache in the film. However, the film was a dismal failure at the box office. Shammi Kapoor had to wait for another four years before he could give a hit.Despite being the son of an illustrious star like Prithviraj Kapoor and younger brother of the legendary Raj Kapoor, success did not come easy to Shammi Kapoor. He Shammi Kapoor had a formidable opposition at the box office in the form of the ruling Trimurti of Indian cinema – brother Raj Kapoor, tragedy king Dilip Kumar and the debonair Dev Anand. Kapoor remembers: "At that moment the film industry was ruled by three top stars – Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand. They were the stalwarts and there was a ’no admission’ board outside and one could not go beyond that.”

At one time when his film career failed to take off, Shammi Kapoor had almost decided to quit films. The only alternative he had was to go to Assam, manage a tea estate, ride a horse and go on hunts.

Shammi Kapoor was just plodding along and not getting any recognition. It was a long wait of years in film industry. He voiced his frustration to Filmfare editor Bunny Reuben saying he had got to break through that barrier of Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand. The next day, Bunny carried a story – ‘The Rebel Star of Tomorrow’.

The epithet Rebel Star stuck to Shammi Kapoor and became his identity of sorts for all times.

Having run out of options, Shammi Kapoor decided to go in for a change of style. That was for ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha’. He shaved off his moustache, cut off his long hair, wore tight jeans, and got a crew cut.

Shammi Kapoor was so anxious about the reaction to Tumsa Nahin Dekha that director Nassir Husain and Shammi Kapoor went to the theatre and saw the public reaction to the film for the first two shows. Before the premiere that was scheduled that night they knew they had a hit on hands.

The success of Tumsa Nahin Dekha turned him into a screen idol overnight. The film deprived Assam of a tea plantation manager and marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Indian cinema. Shammi Kapoor’s biggest contribution to Indian popular culture on the whole can be summed up in one single word. And that is Yahoo! Yahoo! became such a rage that the youth of that time made it their buzz word to exclaim joy. According to the legendary superstar, “Yahoo is the exuberant outcry of success, love and youth – and in ‘Junglee’ it was the climax of the ultimate expression of a man bogged down!”

Critical acclaim came in the form of Brahmachari (1968) that was not only a box-office hit but also won him the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor.

After ruling the 60s, Shammi Kapoor took to direction. His first film was as a director Manoranjan with Sanjeev Kapoor and Zeenat Aman in the lead. It was a mediocre success. He then directed Bundalbaaz with Rajesh Khanna and Sulakshna Pandit. The film was a huge flop.

Born on 12th February 1920 in Delhi, Pran hailed from a prosperous family. Yet, Pran is generous, noble, emotional and a sensitive person. He is respected, loved and admired by everyone. He lives a colorful life by being frank and forthright. He does not crave for success but believes that the real success is performing a duty well. He is a rare combination of head and heart, a master stylist, an intellectual and a great artist. He is very sensitive to human sufferings and is ever compassionate towards the poor, needy, meek, downtrodden, ignored and helpless.

Pran found his love in a graceful girl named Shukla and got married to her in the year 1945. Now, Pran is the proud father of two sons and a daughter. Pran has a very social nature and participates actively in other activities besides films. He is a member of various organizations. His favourite hobbies now are watching sports (football, hockey, cricket), gardening, reading and looking after his pet dogs.

In his distinguishing career of 6 decades, Pran has played a wide variety of roles, which includes acting as a villain, comedian and even a hero. Pran was learning still photography when he accidentally met well-known filmmaker Mohammed Walli outside a "paanshop" in Lahore. This meeting changed young Pran Kishen Sikand's life forever. He was cast as a villain in his Punjabi film Yamla Jat (1940), followed by Chaudhry in 1941. He was then cast as a hero in Khandaan in 1942. Khandaan was a major hit and Pran was flooded with offers to play hero. However, Pran turned them all down, because as he says he didn't fancy chasing girls around trees. Pran acted in 22 films as a villain before his career came to a pause in the wake of the partition. Accompanied by his wife and 18-month-old son, he came to Mumbai, where life was not easy.

He had lost all hopes of making it big in films. Just then, Saadat Hasan Monto and the late actor Shyam managed to get him a villain's role in the Dev Anand-Kamini Kaushal starrer Ziddi, which was directed by Shaheed Lateef.

He was being paid Rs.500 for the film and he asked the producer Rs.100 in advance, to celebrate his break!

Ziddi was followed by films like B.R. Chopra's Afsana (1951), Raj Kapoor's Aah (1953), O.P. Dutta's Malkin (1953) and Bimal Roy's Badi Bahu (1954). Among his notable roles are the title role of Halaku (1956) and the fearsome 'Rekha' in Raj Kapoor's Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai. Till now, Pran had played all kinds of ‘negative’ characters. But, he took everybody by surprise by playing a positive character in Manoj Kumar's Upkaar (1967). More positive characters followed in films like Parichay, Ansoo Ban Gaye Phool, Zanjeer, Majdoor, Kasauti, Dus Numbri, Kaalia, Don, Victoria no. 203, Naseeb and Amar Akbar Anthony. Roop Tera Mastana (1972) was his last film as a villain. Pran even played Valmiki in a mythological entitled Luv-Kush.

Today, at the age of 85, Pran is a satisfied man with an illustrious 60 years career in the film industry and feels if he were born again he would like to be born as PRAN again
