This 16th century fort however is a living piece of history. Located 12 km from the city centre, the fort is still in use, with a small community continuing to live within its confines. The fort is a massive granite structure with the walls and ramparts extending more than 5 km in circumference. At first sight, the remains of a structure that was the centre of an Empire seem a bit disappointing, but remember to catch the Light and Sound show every evening that re-enacts the intricate history of the Fort. Amitabh Bachchan lending his voice to the show more than makes up for the smell of bats in the corridors. As a bonus, you can wander through the Fort and imagine that every hole in the ground is a tunnel with the other end surfacing in Delhi or Calcutta. There are a lot of guides milling around at the entrance of the Fort, but investing in a guide-book is the better option. Location Located 12 km from the city centre Visiting Hours The Fort is open from 8 am to 6.30 pm daily.
